Hi, I'm Susan Josephs, AMFT (she/her)

I love working with Highly Sensitive People, and specialize in artists and creative souls, those wrestling with family and intimate relationship issues, those trying to heal from past trauma, those experiencing disconnections between their minds and bodies, and those with existential dilemmas. I also have experience helping people recover from domestic violence and relationships with narcissistic partners.

About Me

I will always strive to see you, the client, for the unique individual that you are. That means actively listening and responding to what brings you to therapy, what you want to get out of the process, and what therapeutic approaches resonate or do not resonate with you. I am also someone who values integrity, meaning I will never make promises that I can "cure" you or that I have all the answers. The only promise I will make is that with each session, I do my best to be fully present and always put your needs first in the therapeutic relationship.

My approach is integrative, non-judgmental, and collaborative, and I will honor whatever it is you bring into our therapy space.

Earlier in my career, I worked at a domestic violence prevention program and discovered that I could be useful to people in crisis. This experience showed me that I had the capacity to provide a safe space for those who needed support and eventually led me to become a therapist.

My Favorite Thing About Being a Therapist

I feel honored to witness the sacred transformation clients experience as they find insight and healing through the process of therapy, allowing them to discover their value and embrace their authentic selves.

Are You Ready to Find Happiness?

Life can be challenging sometimes — circumstances change, people depart and love can be fleeting. Therapy helps you build the tools to manage life when it's harder than it needs to be.

Land Acknowledgement

Beachside Counseling acknowledges that our therapists live and work on the unceded ancestral homelands of the Coast Miwok, Kumeyaay, Ramaytush Ohlone, and Tongva Peoples. We recognize them as stewards of these lands, and we honor and respect all people, past and present, of these nations who have cared for the lands on which we live. We recognize that the unjust pain and suffering that occurred during the colonization of these lands made it possible for us to be here, and work to honor and celebrate their present and future presence on these lands.
